Art Travelers
Art Travelers helps artists think and write about their art and where they want to take it.
It’s a private written conversation about your artwork.
We'll look closely at the work you're making, the questions you're asking, and the direction you want to explore next.
Everything takes place in writing. I like the slower pace that writing allows. It gives us time to look carefully, think before responding, and return to the conversation over several days.
You'll upload:
Up to three artworks and written reflections about your work through a private, easy-to-use online platform.
I'll respond with:
Questions, suggestions, artists, books, essays, and other resources that may open new ways of thinking.
At the end of our time together, you'll have a written record of our conversations that you can return to while you're making new work, writing blog posts, preparing artist statements, or describing individual paintings.
Is Art Travelers for You?
Art Travelers is intended for visual artists who have moved beyond learning the basics and want to think more deeply about their work.
You might be a painter, mixed media artist, collage artist, printmaker, or work in another visual medium.
What's most important isn't your medium. It's your willingness to look honestly at your work, reflect on it in writing, and consider new ideas.
About Me
I've been studying and making art since the late 1970s. Throughout those years, I've remained curious about how artists learn, how ideas develop, and how paintings continue to reveal themselves long after they're finished.
I enjoy exploring ideas with artists and discovering what thoughtful inquiry can reveal about a painting and the person making it.
I won't teach you how to paint like me, and I won't tell you what your work should become.
I offer my time, careful observation, thoughtful questions, and the perspective that comes from many years of making and living with art.
What Are The Steps?
The first session lasts one week so we can see whether Art Travelers is a good fit for both of us.
If we decide to continue, the next session lasts three weeks. During that time, we'll discuss up to three artworks each week.
At the end of the three weeks, we'll decide together whether continuing would be valuable. Sometimes the most helpful next step is to continue working independently for a while before we meet again.
Join the Waitlist
Art Travelers is intentionally small. New spaces become available throughout the year.
If you'd like to hear when the next opening becomes available, I'd be delighted to add your name to the waitlist.
When a space opens, I'll send you more information and a few questions about your work so we can decide together whether Art Travelers is a good fit.
